This week you have two assignments:
Choose a platform to start designing your online learning module. Submit the link to your module here: Link
The module does not need to be complete at this point. You have two weeks to develop it. The module should include:
– 1 full thematic unit (3-6 hours study time)
– Can-do Statements for Ss
– Instruction (teaching of vocab, grammar, culture)
– Learning materials (texts, images, audios, videos)
– Activities (three communication modes; four language skills; as many “Cs” as possible)
– Assessment demonstrating “can-dos”
Please refer to the slides “Teaching Online” for considerations for a successful online learning design.
Please read your designated article: (“Materials” on Blog)

(Focus: Three-dimensional Grammar Framework)
Prepare to teach the concepts to your classmates and upload your slides to this Google folder: LINK
Please read Chapter 5 of Navarre (2019): Using Technology to Promote Literacy, and upload your reflection to “Journal” on Blog.
Your reading journal entry should follow this format:
1. Upload in Google Doc format (if you upload Word or PDF files, please remember to convert them).
2. The document should be titled with your last name (ex: Navarre_Reading1)
3. The content should include a 150+ word summary of the reading and a 300+ word reaction.
In addition to your normal reflection, please also include in your reaction:
1) What tech-informed methods/tools would you like to use in your teaching to promote Literacy?
2) How would you like to use these methods/tools?
3) Are there other technological tools/methods that are not mentioned in this chapter but can be used to promote Literacy? (If you don’t know any, you do not need to answer this question.)
Write your teaching philosophy (~ 2 pages) and post it in “Journal.” Here is a list of things you could talk about in your teaching philosophy:
You do not need to include all of them and you should also not limit yourself to these items. This is just a guideline. Teaching philosophy differs from person to person, what one chooses to highlight in their statement also differs from person to person.
Note: Please also make sure you watch Zoom Tutorials (under “Resources” on Blog) when preparing your online micro-teaching lesson.
Watch Zoom tutorials from this link to familiarize yourself with the operation of Zoom for a language class.

Watch your own teaching in this folder: Link
In the folder, you’ll also find a sub-folder named: 1-min Transcription.
In this sub-folder, please transcribe the first minute of your instruction* in a google doc. We will then use it to analyze how you can make your instructions match learners’ proficiency level better.
* Instruction means the language you use to give directions of activities or teach concepts. It does NOT include the intro. to learning objectives.
When transcribing, please transcribe it word by word, including both English and Chinese that were iterated.
